Big Bend – 2019

With Fall comes anticipation of another semi-annual bike trip with my good biker buddy, Nathan Gibson.  This year, our route was devised back in June, and would be a variation of a prior trip we had taken through the Big Bend Park area.  On this iteration, we chose a 3 BR Air BnB house right in downtown Alpine, which provided the perfect gateway to the points of interest in the area, most notably, Ft. Davis and the McDonald Observatory, Marfa, Terlingua, and Marathon.

As an added treat, there would be two additional participants for the trip:  Nathan’s girlfriend Susie, would be riding pillion on his excuse for a motorcycle (Harley), and my long-time friend from Munich, Dietmar Panten, who would ride my recently-acquired Honda Valkyrie. The only part of the adventure that was less than perfect was the abnormally cold weather, but we all managed to survive with a smile on our faces.

The routes:

Dripping Springs – Eldorado – Alpine

Alpine – Fort Davis – Marfa – Alpine

map alpine – terlingua – marathon – Alpine

Alpine to Dripping Springs

Normally I am given to long rambling descriptions of our trips, but in this case, both Nathan and Dietmar beat me to the punch with presentations that I couldn’t possibly improve on:
